Why are mirrors so central to our experience as humans?

Mirror, mirror on the wall . . .

What is it about mirrors that are so magical, so cold and impersonal and yet at the same time personal, intimate and integral to our experience as human beings?

Mirrors have a mystical quality in that these are inert material objects without opinion or bias. They carry no record of the past, not the faintest hint, nor do they forecast anything in the future. They faithfully, unequivocally, without exception reflect back what is in front of them, and the world is no different. Reality is no different. Everything we experience “out there” with our finite and primitive five senses will always be a faithful and impersonal reflection telling us what is “in here” down to an atomic level, the deepest implications of which should engender awe.

We are all made of energy and we have the ability through our consciousness to affect that energy and when you change your energy, you not only change your life and your destiny, you change the entire universe.

And that is what this is all about. Mirrors reflect light which allows them to reflect the world around them. In spiritual concepts, light is a powerful symbol of wisdom, truth and awareness. As a consequence, mirrors are symbols and carriers of truth and reflect what our soul really consists of on an intimate level, enabling us to penetrate the surface to what is going on underneath, where everything is happening in the unbounded present moment.

Furthermore, there is the powerful realization that we, sentient beings in the infinite creation, are mirrors ourselves. We reflect the light of the creator and we reflect back that light to the creator so that it can learn and know itself through our experiences with one another. Life is a gift for which we should all celebrate and give praise. There’s no other way around it. If you aren’t waking up grateful for another day it’s a sign from the universe that you’ve lost your way. In some way, shape or form you’ve lost sight of your purpose. Life is intended to be magical and miraculous. Count it as joy when you fall into trials knowing that these trials are the fire that refine the soul and the spirit of man is eternal. We signed on for this, believe it or not. We are here for a reason.

We signed on for “earth school” so that consciousness could continuously rediscover itself through this apparent reality in the third dimension, and this is just the beginning of something much bigger, grander, and more joyous than we can possibly imagine. There is no death. And there are no victims here. We shall never cease to reap what we sow.

So sow good deeds. Let your light shine before men and reflect back the brilliance of your life to the creator.

Below are some famous quotes about the mystical mirror:

“The pure heart is a spotless mirror in which images of infinite beauty are reflected.” – Rumi

“It’s really important to talk to yourself and look at yourself in the mirror and love who you are.” – Lilly Singh

“Smile in the mirror. Do that every morning and you’ll start to see a big difference in your life.” – Yoko Ono

“Who sees the human face correctly: the photographer, the mirror, or the painter?” – Pablo Picasso

The mirror doesn’t “see.” And that’s a huge difference. The mirror “reflects” it sends back.
